What is Radon?
Radon is a cancer causing radioactive gas that is colorless and odorless. Radon gives off ionizing radiation. It comes from the decay of uranium that is found in all soils around the world. Because it is in the soil that means it is under your house!!
Radon travels up from the earth into your home where you can breathe it into your lungs. Radon comes in the foundation floor, openings around pipes, and sump pits, just to name a few. The pressure differentials that are in every home create a vacuum pressure and Radon travels up into the home. Even new construction homes that are built "tight" can have high levels. As a matter of fact they can have very high levels because there is nowhere for the radon to escape!
